THE award-winning Ultimate Physiques gym and fitness centre, in Castleford, has undergone a major expansion programme to create the Ultimate MMA Academy.

New facilities, which include a boxing suite with 18ft training ring and more than 20 punchbags of all sizes, plus a fully-padded martial arts room.

MMA means mixed martial arts, incorporating conventional and Brazilian Jujitsu, Aikido and GKR karate, while coaching in rugby and wrestling techniques is also available.

There are also classes in bums and tums, yoga, boxercise and ladies-only self defence, together with kids’ martial arts classes three times a week.

Ultimate Physiques owner Jason Matthews has many years’ experience in gyms and fitness, supported by an expert team including Ryan Hunter (judo and Brazilian jujitsu), Glyn Booth (GKR karate). Alongside the brand new boxing and martial arts facilities are well-equipped cardio and weights rooms, including much new equipment imported from the USA, plus a ladies-only fitness suite, beauty salon, sports therapy and tanning suite.

Ultimate Physiques recently won two awards, beating more than 300 rivals to the title of best independent fitness club in Northeast England and backing this up with an award for best-supported gym.

Classes start from £3.50 per session, with no membership needed, so making use of these superb facilities is very affordable.

You’ll find Ultimate Physiques and MMA Academy on Wellington Street, off Methley Road.
